Thunder Road, written, directed, and performed by Jim Cummings, won best film at the 2016 NoBudge awards. It also won the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Sundance Film festival.
Here is the short dramatic comedy shot in a single take.
Our age exacts from men a constant, presentable stoicism, offering in return wealth, weaponry, and the armor of personal power as purer means of self-expression. Cummings understands that to repurpose these masculine safeguards as beard for the raw display of ugly, undignified emotion is the deepest possible affront to this contorted order of things. His dance, in the light and fervor of his insult to everything wrong about manhood, is a thing delicious to behold.
