Our movie still of the day is this one of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen from David Lynch’s 1984 Dune. Here he is defying gravity with his suspensors, plotting to exterminate the Atreides and just being all-round nasty.
Legendary has bought the film and TV rights to Frank Herbert’s Dune and the latest rumor is that Denis Villeneuve is in talks to direct the reboot.
Set in the distant future, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, whose family accepts the stewardship of the desert planet Arrakis. As the planet is the only source of the “spice” melange, the most important and valuable substance in the universe, control of Arrakis is highly contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, Paul leads a rebellion to retake control of the planet. The story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature.
We wonder who would play Harkonnen after Kenneth McMillan’s brilliant performance. Share your suggestions.
He who controls the Spice, controls the Universe.
