Blade Runner 2049 teaser trailer awakens a flurry of emotions as we behold the rejuvenation of our beloved dystopian aesthetics.
The look. The soundtrack. And a familiar voice over (a few well known lines from the first film). It is all in there to now get us even more hyped up for the upcoming sequel of the neo-noir science fiction classic.
Seeing the imagery was instant bliss (notice the bikes?). Hearing the Vangelis synth music made it ecstatic. We are hopeful.
Ridley Scott is co-producing Blade Runner 2049 while Dennis Villeneuve directs his second sci-fi film, right after Arrival. The screenplay is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green.
From the Warner Bros. Picture synopsis:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
“Officer K” resonates as Kafkaesque with us. Will this be another quest for purpose and identity? All we can do is speculate. And that we will. Meanwhile, rain has become snow and we have yet to see if it hides tears.
Starring alongside Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford are Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto.
Blade Runner 2049 is scheduled for release October 6, 2017.
